Enhancement of Adhesion Characteristics of Low-Density Polyethylene Using Atmospheric Plasma Initiated-Grafting of Polyethylene Glycol

چکیده

The low-density polyethylene/aluminum (LDPE/Al) joint in Tetra Pak provides stability and strength to food packaging, ensures protection against outside moisture, maintains the nutritional values flavors of without need for additives products. However, a poor adhesion LDPE Al, due its non-polar surface, is limiting factor extra polymeric interlayers or surface treatment required. Plasma-assisted grafting with different molecular weight compounds polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used improve LDPE/Al adhesion. It found that this modification contributed significantly wettability as confirmed by contact angle measurements. chemical composition changes after plasma process were observed X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). A morphology analyzed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) atomic force (AFM). Adhesion characteristics adhesive joints peel tests. most significant improvement PEG modified achieved using 10.0 wt.% aqueous (6000 M) solution, while resistance increased approximately 54 times comparison untreated LDPE.

Grafting of Acrylamide to Low Density Polyethylene During Melt Processing

Acrylamide was grafted in low density polyethylene during melt processing in the presence of a free radical initiator using a torque rheometer in a closed system. Effects of processing time, acrylamide and benzoyl peroxide concentrations were studied. FTIR studies revealed that the degree of grafting increased by an increase in acrylamide concentration. Maximum grafting was obtained at 7 mi...
